The International Conference on Plastic Optical Fibers (POF 2008), held at the Santa Clara Convention Center August 25-28, 2008, was the largest POF conference to date, with over 200 registrants from 15 counties, 20 exhibitors, and 8 corporate sponsors.

The program included six tutorials on August 25, and conference and exhibits Aug 26-28. Over 70 papers were presented at the conference. A few of the highlights of the conference were a keynote address and session on "Active Optical Cables," a session on "POF Home Networking Standards," and a session on "Home Networking Using POF — Experiences from Around the World."

The International Conference was preceded by a "West Meets East POF Workshop," Aug 20-22, organized by the POF Application Center (POF-AC) and IGI. The workshop was taught by Professors Karl Friederich Klein and Olaf Ziemann.
